Eat Drink Man Woman

Welcome to the beginning of my blog!

I just watched Ang Lee's 1994 film "Eat Drink Man Woman," and was really impressed. The story follows the lives of three Taiwanese sisters in their 20s as well as their widowed father, who is a retired master chef. It's a witty and worthwhile watch about family, love, and the unexpected side of life.

The drama set in urban Taipei is filmed in striking non-western style. I have never been to Asia and was fascinated by the visual shots of the city including the architecture and shots of the streets. Taipei is the scooter capital of the world with more scooters per capita than cars.

It is home to the 2nd tallest skyscraper in the world, Taipei 101, an office building that also includes the the fastest elevator.

I also found this cool-looking proposal from NL Architects for a new performing arts center, the to be built in Taipei as a center with three movie theaters, clubs, bars, and shopping areas. I love the randomly sized windows and exterior elevators.
